Crusaders camp @ Lake Macquarie - next week

Dear parents,

Just a reminder that we are attending camp next week from Wednesday to Friday. Please read through the camp notes carefully to ensure you are across departure and arrival home times at Bayview Park.

For Home learning next week, students will be asked to pack their bags for camp checking off items from the camp packing list. While we are encouraging independence, it is recommended you still take a look over you child's bag :-)

Tomorrow afternoon we will spend some time discussing camp and Mrs Richards will do the same on Tuesday of next week.

Camp provides a wonderful bonding experience for students as well as the opportunity to step out of their comfort zone.

I'm looking forward to a great time away! Keep your eyes on the blog for photo updates.

¡Hola querida comunidad escolar!

Me llamo Señorita Lopez, I am one of the Spanish teachers at St Luke’s and I will be doing the first term of Spanish with some of the students. It is always an exciting time to learn Spanish so get ready to have a party in your mouths and say things like ‘me gustan mucho las enchiladas!’ or ‘queremos hacer una fiesta!’
This first term of Español at St Luke’s we will be immersing students in the spoken and written language. Students will learn how to greet each other and introduce themselves and their family members. They will also learn how to express nationality, likes and dislikes, and a whole new set of new vocabulary that will have their mouths doing linguistic Zumba!
Please be ready to be surprised by your kids with new fun words in Spanish like ‘Pequeñito’, ‘fantastico’, ‘maravilloso’, ‘estupendo’, ‘chiquito’ and more. Watch out for them saying things like ‘Hola, ¿como estas? Or ‘¡arriba!’ or ‘me llamo Pedro’ when they get picked up from school. Make sure you reply back with a friendly ‘hola’ and a smile to encourage them to use their new vocabulary.

Looking forward to meet you!

Goal Setting

'Goals are pure fantasy unless you have a specific plan to achieve them.'  Steve Covey
This week, Year 5 students will be finalising their goals and action plans. Thank you to all those parents who have assisted in this process. If you haven't yet discussed goal-setting with your child, please have them share their goals with you so that you can encourage them as they put in place their action plans.

Scholastic Book Club 2020

Dear Parents,

Your child should have brought home a new Scholastic Book Club catalogue.
Each catalogue contains the entire range of books available which enables you to purchase for all ages, siblings, relatives or gifts for friends.

You order online using LOOP – and DON’T need to return any paperwork to school!  Order online using LOOP http://www.scholastic.com.au/schools/bookclub/bc_parents.asp Easy and paperless!

When asked for the school name enter “St Luke’s Grammar School” and it will come up with the Bayview option.

Purchases will come home with your child when they are delivered to the school.

Last date for ordering this month is Monday 17 February.

Kind regards,
Susie Duffy

Rainy days provide opportunities for class bonding

We enjoyed a quiet day full of learning and indoor activities today thanks to the down pour. It provided a wonderful opportunity for class bonding as new friendships are developing particularly with those new to St Luke's this year.

Now that our IT systems are set up and in place, we have enjoyed participating in discussions on Canvas. Why not ask your child to show you Canvas and talk you though how we use it in the classroom?

Thank you to the Fabulous Year 5's and their families.
